FLASHLIGHTPOD DIY FOR FREE!

IMG_0862
The concept is simple. Modify any flashlight to fit a 1/4″ tripod thread to use for anything with a tripod mount.

It started out back when the GoPro2 came out. We all had several broken metal flashlights that needed to either be thrown out or re-purposed. Basic metal flashlights are cheaply priced and sometimes cheaply made so they tend to break more often. Instead of throwing them away like most things we do now-a-days, we decided to re-purpose them. And for years, they just sat in our garages or junk draws collecting dust. Our first idea idea for the FLASHLIGHTPOD was to make a tripod like handle/base for our gopro cameras (w/tripod adapter) while skiing and snowboarding. Many cameras come with 1/4″ threads usually at the base/bottom to attach a tripod. We had all the gopro accessories but we needed something we could hold for non-POV style video footage and the FLASHLIGHTPOD fit that void. Our first prototype back in 2012 was actually made from an old wooden closet rod and misc bolts, screws, washers, etc that we had laying around. It wasn’t pretty but was functional with our GoPro2 cameras.

You can get these parts from any hardware store or online. The only difference is that we quality control the parts and vendors we choose. Whether it be for casual home footage of our families or professional photography and videography, we’ve used parts from a wide variety of sources and over the years have learned from trial and error which parts work best for our products in various applications and environments.

1. Flashlight (working or non-working) = Prices vary.
2. 1.4″ – 20 stainless steel bolt (length varies per application) = $1 or less.
3. 1/4″ – 20 stainless steel washer = $1 or less.
4. 1/4″ -20 knurled check nut w/non-slip rubber gasket = $1 or less.

All the parts can be found for $5 or less at most hardware stores. For this reason, we charge $20 for labor and $20 for shipping at our earliest convenience because you can easily do it yourself 🙂
